This Saturday, Manchester High student, Evie, will be representing Great Britain in the Artistic Swimming Technical Team at the Junior European Championships in Malta!

The 15 year old was selected for the competition squad back in June and after several long training days in Bristol, and an intensive camp last week, her place in the technical team has been confirmed.

Evie was both “shocked and delighted to have made the squad and is ecstatic to have been chosen to swim with her teammates in the technical team.”  She said, “It is especially rewarding to have been chosen this year after my training schedule was disrupted with the national lockdowns.”

Her achievement is even more impressive given the limited pool time available to her during lockdown, and the fact that the competition age group criteria for this year has been extended to 19 year olds in recognition of the lack of junior competition in 2020!

The Year 11 student travelled to Malta last Sunday and will be competing on the 3rd July.  It is the next phase in an already remarkable career which began with her first national title in Figures at the age of 12. In 2019 Evie was selected for the England Youth Squad for 13-15 year olds and competed in the first FINA Youth World Championships in Slovakia.  On her return, she trialled for the GB Training Squad and became the only swimmer in 2019/20 to be simultaneously selected for both the England Youth Squad and the GB Training Squad.  Just ahead of lockdown in 2020 she achieved two further national titles in Figures and Solo in the 13 -15 age group.

Even after the championships, Evie has much to look forward to as she has also been selected for the Junior Duet B squad. The whole school community wishes her lots of luck for Saturday and for what promises to be an exciting future.   The event will be streamed live on Saturday from 5.15pm and can be watched by clicking here https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x821vs2
