Maysa has been named as the winner of the Year 9 IVYticulation art competition for her fantastic presentation on The Starry Night painting by Vincent Van Gogh.

The competition, which is now is in its fifth year, was created in response to some Year 8 students in 2016 who asked if there was an ARTiculation Prize for KS3 students. ARTiculation is a nationally acclaimed annual event organised by The Roche Court Educational Trust for Sixth Formers.

Head of Art, Mrs Ann Chambers, said “IVYticulation has been designed to promote the appreciation and discussion of visual culture and to develop the students’ confidence and ability to express their opinions, thoughts and conclusions.

Adjudicator and Head of Classics, Miss Julie Welsby, felt Maysa successfully demonstrated a passionate and structured approach.  She said “Maysa spoke with clarity and cohesion and expressed her own personal response to the painting.  Not only did she research The Starry Night but she also talked about it in the context of Van Gogh and his own personal struggles.”

Well done also to Polly and Rosa who were worthy runners-up.  Polly was given second place for her interesting thoughts on Anthony Gormley’s Another Place, whilst Rosa’s eloquent discussion on the painting of Two Crabs by Van Gogh won her third place.
