For seven members of staff at Manchester High School for Girls, the final day of November signifies more than the start of advent.  For them it is the end of Movember and time to say goodbye (we hope!) to the moustaches they have so lovingly cultivated over the last four weeks!

Our very own Magnificent 7 have taken on the challenge of Movember with enthusiasm and aplomb to become ‘Moustached at Man High’ and have so far raised more than £1,500 for men’s health charities.

Led by our ICT Development Director, Mr Haves, the Mo Bros, as they like to refer to themselves, have sported a variety of moustaches in November, from the 1980s footballer look (Mr McDaid) to Victorian weight lifter (Mr Goulding) and The Tiger King himself (Mr Eaton).

For Mr Kingsley, it took a little more time for the facial hair to establish itself and, even by day 30, it never quite happened for him!  However, Mr Norris, Mr Irwin and Mr Haves, had no such trouble and were soon sprouting some impressive moustaches!

Staff at MHSG have enjoyed receiving weekly mo-mails with updates on the progress of the challenge, and whilst these have been eagerly anticipated, the underlying message has been far more serious.  Testicular cancer is one of the most common cancers in young men; 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime; and sadly, men account for 75% of all suicides in the UK.

Our Moustached Maestros initially aimed to raise £500 for the Movember Foundation - one of the world’s largest funders of research and support of organisations working in these fields – however they smashed their target within a week!  They raised it to £1,000 but as of this morning, they have gone above and beyond and have raised a total of £,1,623.

If you would like to show your support for the mo-velous dedication shown by our staff, you can still donate via the following link  https://uk.movember.com/team/2378417. They would be mo than delighted with your donation!
