The Season for Giving
Tis the season for giving and the MHSG community has been doing just that over the past couple of weeks. Our students and their parents have been generously donating goods for one of five local charities this year in order to make a difference during the festive season.
Fundraising forms an integral part of the school calendar at Manchester High School for Girls with each year group choosing its own charity and raising money throughout the year. December sees the biggest push on charitable efforts with the donation of goods for charities that have all been chosen by the girls themselves or a member of staff.
This year we are once again supporting the Wood Street Mission - a charity that helps families, across Manchester and Salford, who are struggling to make ends meet. MHSG girls and staff have been bringing in new toys for children between the ages of 0 and 14 to make sure that local children have something special to open on Christmas Day.
They have also been bringing in goods for Cornerstone - a day centre that provides services to vulnerable and disadvantaged adults - and the Booth Centre, which is a community centre run with, and for, people affected by homelessness.
It is not just two-legged friends that are benefitting from the generosity of our families this Christmas! Students have been donating food and blankets for the Millstream Animal Shelter which is dedicated to improving the lives of our feline companions in the local area. The dog-lovers in school have been doing the same for Dogs4Rescue, a unique, independent dog rescue centre in a semi-rural part of Manchester where dogs live together in a kennel-free environment.
In the next few days our sixth formers will take part in a Zumba session for Prevent Breast Cancer and the whole school will be participating in Festive Jumper Day, on Thursday, in aid of Save the Children! With so much kindness in school, our girls and their parents will definitely be on Santa’s Good List this year!
A huge thank you to all those who have already brought items into school. For anyone still wishing to donate, please bring gifts into Main Reception by Monday 14th December.
